Competition to Pokémon?
Palworld: Palfarm strongly resembles Animal Crossing. And Nintendo is angry again...

After the worldwide surprise success of Palworld, developer Pocketpair is expanding the franchise further. With Palworld: Palfarm, a spin-off has now been introduced that takes pocket monsters into a completely different genre: instead of survival action, this time the focus is on calm life on the island - including building a farm, trading and dealing with villagers.
While Palworld is known for its mix of crafting, open world and combat, Palfarm takes a decidedly calmer tone. Together with their Pals, the players set up a farm, grow crops and sell the produce in small shops... But everything doesn't stay calm all the time, because evil Pal-monsters can attack their own farm, so at the same time as the farm's productivity, it is also necessary to develop defense mechanisms. Core features include four changing seasons, social interactions with islanders, and a multiplayer mode.
According to the developers, the idea for Palfarm came from the community - many fans wanted more casual adventures with the popular Pals. Pocketpair points out that Palfarm is being developed by a separate team. Current work on Palworld, which is still in early access, will not be affected. The main game became one of the biggest hits of the year in early 2024, temporarily reaching over two million concurrent players.
The inspiration is obvious: Pocketpair is heavily inspired by Nintendo's successful Animal Crossing series. The announcement is therefore likely to once again cause concern at Nintendo. Already in 2024, the Pocketpair concern sued for alleged patent violations and demanded a ban on Palworld, and with Palfarm, Pocketpair is even closer to Nintendo's territory.
